Workflows
Publishing and versions
Understand draft and live versions of a workflow, publish your changes with a description, and restore an earlier version.
A workflow has two copies. The draft is the one you edit. The live version, also called production, is the one that serves real traffic. Publishing copies the draft to live.
What runs where#
| Where | Which copy |
|---|---|
| Editing on the canvas | Draft, saved automatically |
| Run tab | Draft |
| Webhooks, schedules and app triggers | Live |
Your edits save as you work, and the top bar shows Saving… and then Saved. Nothing a user sees changes until you publish. While the draft differs from the live version, the version badge on the History button is ahead of the live version and Publish is enabled. When they match, Publish is greyed out.
Publish#
- Click Publish in the top right.
- The dialog opens with a description already drafted from your changes. FlowHunt also checks the workflow when you confirm. If a step has a problem, you get the message Validation failed. Please fix the errors highlighted on the components. and the steps to fix are marked.
- In the Save & Publish Your Automation dialog, check the Version number and edit the Change Description. It holds up to 225 characters and cannot be empty.
- Click Regenerate if you want FlowHunt to draft the description again.
- Click Publish.
If the workflow calls another workflow, the dialog adds a Publish referenced flow checkbox. Tick it to publish the called workflow with this one.
If you try to leave the editor with unpublished changes, FlowHunt asks whether to publish before you go, with Don’t publish as the other choice.
Version history#
Click History to open the version list. Each entry shows the version number, the date, who changed it and the description you wrote.
To go back, click the restore icon on a version. FlowHunt copies that version into your draft as a new, higher version number. The live version does not change until you publish again, so restoring is safe to try. Because the draft is now ahead of live, Publish becomes available.
Restore keeps your history
Restoring does not delete newer versions. It adds a new draft on top of the old content.
Share, export and import#
Hover the workflow name at the top to open the workflow menu.
- Export downloads the workflow as a file, and Import loads one into the editor. If you have unpublished changes, the export is based on the last published version, and FlowHunt warns you with Unpublished changes and a Continue anyway button.
- Share opens Share agent with a Workspace link. Anyone with access to the workspace can open it. Share as chatbot publishes the workflow as an embeddable or public chatbot. See Create and embed.
- Edit details changes the name, the descriptions, the chat input placeholder and whether the chat text box is disabled.
Changes that need a publish#
A schedule or a trigger you add or change takes effect on live traffic only after you publish. Check Triggers and Schedules if something runs with old settings.
